For mobile creators and other busy multitaskers who can’t decide between a laptop or tablet, there’s the Asus ProArt PZ14. This fast, sleek, and highly portable PC with a detachable keyboard lets you have your cake and eat it, too.

The detachable form factor is ideal for on-the-go creatives with dynamic workloads — i.e., you’re typing up a script one minute and sketching new logo ideas the next. (You can do the same things with convertible, 2-in-1 laptops, but they’re not as portable as those with fully removable keyboards.) The latest ProArt PZ14 with the Snapdragon X2 Elite chip is the best detachable Windows laptop we’ve tried recently.
While it’s not quite as fast as traditional PCs with the same chip, including the Asus Zenbook A14 and HP Omnibook Ultra 14, the ProArt PZ14 is still a very strong performer. In single-core workloads, it zips past every Intel- and AMD-powered PC we’ve tried this year. In more intensive multi-core scenarios, it rivals premium creator laptops like the M5 MacBook Pro, Dell XPS 14, and Acer Swift X 14. Chaney was super impressed by how cool and quiet it ran in her testing, even with 35 tabs open and three apps running.
The ProArt PZ14 doesn’t last as long as those other X2 Elite laptops we’ve tried, but its 17-hour, 39-minute battery life is still better than our database’s 16.5-hour median for PCs.
The main “tablet” part of the ProArt PZ14 features a gorgeous 2.8K OLED touchscreen with a sky-high 144Hz refresh rate — a boon for those who do a lot of video editing or gaming. (Just know that its ARM-based CPU may not support every game.) Unlike regular PCs, it has an 8MP front webcam plus a 13MP rear camera; both are “solid” for laptop shooters, said Chaney. Without its keyboard, the ProArt PZ14 comes in at just 1.74 pounds and 0.35 inches thin, which technically makes it the lightest, slimmest device on this list.
The ProArt PZ14’s keyboard deserves a special shoutout: Unlike many detachable keyboards, it feels genuinely wonderful to type on. “There’s sufficient travel, the keys give off a pleasant clack with each keypress and feel just right, and the surface of the keys is velvety smooth, but not so slick you don’t feel like you have enough traction,” said Chaney. “Suuuuper impressed.” Asus also throws in a case with a built-in kickstand that lets you use the ProArt PZ14 in landscape or portrait orientation. (The latter is optimal for working with vertical videos.)
