Today, we curated some of the news from crypto and blockchain organizations in the Philippines from last week (June 2 to 8, 2025).

SparkPoint Releases June 2025 Agenda

Bicol-born blockchain project SparkPoint released its key targets and events for June 2025.

The agenda includes a community announcement scheduled on June 9, while a new partnership announcement will be unveiled on June 30.

In the middle of the month, from June 18 to 19, SparkPoint will participate in the Super AI event in Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. It is Asia’s largest AI event, expected to draw at least 7,000 attendees and with more than 150 speakers from fields like robotics, finance, biotech, and decentralized systems. The event will also feature a hackathon and Genesis Startup Competition offering $200,000+ in prizes. 

Davao is Host for Ethereum DevTrack Workshop

#CryptoPH communities ETH63PH and Davao DeFi hosted a free two-day Ethereum DevTrack workshop in Davao City on June 6 and 7, 2025.

The event, aimed at beginners, welcomed tech students, hobbyists, and developers interested in learning the basics of blockchain and Ethereum smart contract development. Attendees were introduced to key concepts such as Blockchain 101, Solidity programming, smart contract deployment, and development of decentralized applications.

The workshop included hands-on sessions, group exercises, and trivia games to encourage peer learning and active engagement. Participants also received guidance on Ethereum development tools and best practices for managing environments, according to the organizers.

Crypto Exchange MEXC Introduces PH Country Lead

International crypto exchange MEXC appointed Amira Alawi, the sister of actress Ivana Alawi, as its new country manager for the Philippines to lead its local expansion efforts.

Alawi will oversee MEXC’s operations in the country, focusing on community-driven growth, educational initiatives, and creator-led content. She emphasized the importance of inclusivity in web3 and plans to make blockchain technology more accessible to women, creators, and digital entrepreneurs.

Alongside her role at MEXC, Alawi is the head of social media and growth at Filipino-led blockchain project Sovrun and a TikTok content creator with over five million views. She has been active in promoting crypto adoption and is set to speak at Philippine Blockchain Week on June 10 to 11, 2025. 

Paytaca Takes Part at TechUnity 2025

Bitcoin Cash wallet Paytaca participated in TechUnity 2025 at the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Regional Office VIII, showcasing how $BCH and digital wallets can promote financial inclusion and social empowerment.

Visitors to the Paytaca booth experienced hands-on demos, including a crypto-accepting vending machine and the Paytaca mobile app. Attendees also had the chance to win free $BCH and exclusive Paytaca Tribe merchandise.

After Mass CEO Rudy Kadoch labeled users from the Philippines and four other countries as “vampires of web3,” local crypto leaders pushed back, arguing that the real issue lies in poorly designed airdrop systems rather than users exploiting available incentives.

Filipino web3 leaders and users argued that flawed airdrop systems, not user behavior, are to blame, while online reactions ranged from humor to reflections on exploitation and reputation.

SEC Releases Final Rules on Digital Assets

The Philippine Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has finalized its Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) Rules, expanding the definition of marketing to include nearly all forms of public communication related to crypto, such as social media posts, educational content, events, and airdrops. 

CASPs must now register with the SEC and report all third-party promoters, while influencers or educators who promote crypto without naming a CASP must register as financial advisers.

Marketing is broadly defined to include any act, regardless of format or medium, that induces or promotes crypto activity, and CASPs will be held liable for their agents’ actions. 

YGG Play Summit 2025 Now Set

Crypto gaming protocol Yield Guild Games (YGG) officially announced the return of the YGG Play Summit, scheduled for November 19 to 20, 2025. 

Promoted as the world’s largest web3 gaming event, the summit aims to showcase major game launches, new brand collaborations, and community-driven innovations in the blockchain gaming space. The two-day event will serve as a platform for developers, builders, and players to converge and explore the future of gaming and digital work.

YGG noted that the summit will feature world premieres, partnership announcements, and discussions on how web3 is reshaping both entertainment and employment across digital ecosystems.

PNP: AMLC Can Track Crypto Transactions

The Philippine National Police (PNP) expressed confidence in the Anti-Money Laundering Council’s (AMLC) ability to trace ransom payments, even when routed through cryptocurrencies.

Speaking before his retirement, PNP Chief Gen. Rommel Marbil emphasized AMLC’s vital role in uncovering money trails obscured by digital assets, citing a recent ₱200-million ransom case partially paid in crypto as an example.

This statement was made during the launch of the Joint Anti-Kidnapping Action Committee (JAKAC), a new multi-agency task force aimed at combating organized abduction operations.

Backed by numerous government bodies, private sector partners, and international stakeholders, JAKAC aims to deliver a coordinated, intelligence-driven response to tech-enabled crimes. 

The Voice of #CryptoPH: The BitPinas Webcast Tackles Final CASP Rules

BitPinas launched a live webcast titled “SEC Final Crypto Rules: What It Means for Influencers, KOLs, Educators,” following the release of the ’s new regulations on crypto activities. 

The session aimed to break down how the updated rules affect social media influencers, educators, and key opinion leaders (KOLs), especially concerning content like promotions, airdrops, and educational materials now classified under regulated crypto marketing.

The webcast featured industry voices including Joseph Lejarde of Whizkid Academy, Kookoo Crypto from YG, SG of Airdrop ng mga Bobo, and Eli Rabadon from the Blockchain Council of the Philippines. They shared insights on how the new policies may reshape crypto content creation and public engagement in the space.
